An eye in a socket is worth two in a smoosh

The tale of how a day that started out badly ended well.

Ahahahaha, Wednesday night. Big things were meant to be done in time for Thursday, so half of Wednesday night was spent flailing around to get things done, the other half occupied with quietly humming while blatantly ignoring the stack of papers.

Which ended up with me sleeping at what, almost four in the morning, with almost nothing done.

Was it angled to make Thursday gorgeous?

If you are a blind angler and your kindly wife has secretly hooked a dead fish to the end of your line, yes.

For me, no.

Lack of sleep, woke up with a growl and a stumble, then shoved a bit more work into the, what, half an hour before I'd be latelatelate for class. I didn't even have breakfast, I was so much in a hurry.

So, BLESS THE BICYCLE, you see, because it made me go from a little late to a little early, and I adore being a little early.

However, four-fifths of my clothes have just been washed and were drying in the drying room, and I didn't have any other pair of trousers but the black slacks that DO NOT suit cycling, and there was no time for me to be running down to get a fresh, clean pair of jeans. So I was in uncomfortable trousers, again. Suffered through with a smile, because at least I didn't sweat.

Didn't study much in either of the Japanese classes; Easter break starts come Saturday, and everyone already feels tired and lazy. We did watch the fanta commercial of EPIC though, and while this time I managed to contain the hysterical laughter that is most insistent whenever I watched it, it still made me laugh hard. And it made the teacher laugh hard too, which is a good thing.

I didn't know I laughed easily until I realised that I was the only one laughing most of the time. And it wasn't nervous laughter, it was the sort of hearty laughter that makes you rock back and forth in delight.

This is a good thing, I think.

What else, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat else.

Crammed like a crazy mutha during the two hour break between the last Japanese class and the last lecture. Some time during that my left eye went wonky.

The contact lens was pricking my eye something awful, and I was quiet but it looked like I was sobbing, the amount of tears coming out.

So, uh. Yeah. I hadn't thought to bring my glasses, because I've been wearing contact lenses for a year now and have never had an occasion to use my glasses.

So I removed the contact lens of just my left eye and tried washing it. When it still smarted, I chucked it away.

So, uh. From half past two in the afternoon until about 7 at night, I was effectively half-blind.

Ever wondered if having your vision impaired in one eye sharpens the vision of the other?

The answer, in my case, was no. It was weird, it was baffling, everything had soft edges, reading notes was tough, drinking a glass of apple juice was psychedelic, and cycling back made me rather worried.

Had a belated kanji test at the end of the day; it was supposed to have been on Monday, but I had to skip it to go for lab, so I had it today instead.

Finished it quite possibly in record time; hopefully I've not screwed up beyond all hope :D

Sensei said that the improvement I've made in the second semester has been a teensy bit astronomical. I went from having the third-lowest grade to scoring pretty spectacularly high, hurrah.

He then recommended getting a Nintendo DS XL, or some form of an electronic dictionary to make it easier for me to look up words. My laptop has a pretty kick-ass kanji-handwriting-recognition software (courtesy of said sensei), so I'm not in a rush to get anything extra.

Though trying to see if I could convince my parents to get me a Nintendo should be pretty interesting.

Sensei also said he'll go through my translation efforts sometime soon. He's been busy, you see, preparing our final exam papers. In the mean time, I shall carry on as I have done and do my best (my best!).

It was dark and raining fairly heavily for this part of the world when I finally left sensei's office. So I was cycling back half-blind in the rain after a very long day with no sugar to power me up (a sodding vending machine swallowed my money and gave nothing in return!) in uncomfortable slacks basically in the dark.

Obviously, I played it safe as I could. By, y'know, cycling on the pavement rather than on the road. Jangling my lock at the few straggling ladies and men huddled in coats, speeding by as best I could as I got soaked.

Adrenaline kicked in like a crazy bastard singing on coke.

Barely made it back in time to catch dinnertime, but made it I did, courtesy of a swift bout of cycling.

Got extra portions at dinner, because I was cute.

Okay no, because they were almost closing the food window and wanted to get rid of as much as they could.

But I totally didn't mind, because I got a plate of rice, chicken curry, beef chilli and stir-fried vegetables. With a side plate of curly fries. And a strawberry sponge cake for dessert.

Oh, baby.

Dinner made me ever so happy.

Tomorrow we depart for the experimental grounds to quite possibly plant trees!

On legs of muscle and gold, and a bicycle of steel and rubber~

I would offer a picture, but I've been away for 8 hours. YOU. GET. NOTHING.

Oh, I kid. But really, no pitchers.

OH HEY, EASTER HOLS HAVE BEGUN. Be happy, everybody.
